Initially, when I tried to set my city in their software the program crashed. I then went to Sharper Image's support page for this product and it says it will run just fine on 64-bit systems.

I was able to get the software installed and running on my 64-bit Vista system even though the manual says it only supports 32-bit operating systems. I guess that's why they're nearly out of business. This definitely weakens my opinion of them. Very dissppointed in Sharper Image I'd always had a lot of respect for their products.
Yeah, I think I'm taking this Sharper Image cr*p back and getting one of those. or if you can find the Ambient Devices WF7D01, It's even more cool-the background color of the display itself varies with the outside temp, giving you the idea of outside conditions even more instantly than reading a numeral does. The Ambient uses some sort of GPS-like (in that it's everywhere) weather signal from to gather info no wires, no need for a computer connection-just plug it in and it reports & forecasts. Perhaps I'll instead acquire a different weather station, also available from Best Buy: the Ambient Cirrus Seven-Day Weather Forecaster, model number WF7D09, SKU 9468658 (putting either one in the search field will take you right to it). My wife will understand and probably be relieved that I don't insist on turning this stupid gadget into a sideline career.

I had actually considered dragging an older, internet-capable tower PC we have in our attic and setting it up kind of like a monitor-less server in a corner to just run the software and transmitter for this thing (which, yes, I realize is a lot of trouble for some $60 weather station that doesn't even do everything we want it to, but, hey, I'm no quitter!), but after experiencing this thing's slow and iffy-at-best, regular-massages-mandatory updating practices, I think I'm going to pronouce this project dead, and it's going back to the store. at which point, I'd try hitting the button again, waiting another hour.

It DID NOT, contrary to the directions' claim, update automatically, and when I told the software to "send to receiver" (via a button on the program), I had to wait as long as an hour to find out whether it "took" or not, and usually it did NOT take. In the spirit of trying to see this thing in action, I've had the transmitter on my netbook all weekend & Monday, and have had dismal results. We, in our household, only use laptops, and dragging that transmitter around from room to room with us is not an option, not to mention leaving a battery-driven laptop on all the time, obviously.
It requires the transmitter to be chained to a PC running the software CONSTANTLY. PLUS, I foolishly thought that maybe it connected directly with our wireless network for its info (hence, "Internet" Weather Station). This one IS prettier with it's slick design and LCD-like display (it is NOT, however, LCD, if you were thinking from the photos if it is). BIG LETDOWN! At least our old one tells you what it is outside without having to experience it! STRIKE ONE. When I opened the Sharper Image Internet Weather Station, I realized it did not display current conditions. I was hoping that it would replace our old weather station, which displays only current conditions & forecast for some ambiguous period in the future. I can't believe I didn't research it before requesting it! I specifically asked (or at least hinted strongly) to my wife that I'd really like this for Christmas now I'm thinking I need to return it.
In the three days of owning this device, I've experienced every trouble the previous reviewers have, except for the broken stand. Kenny66 sums it up pretty nicely this thing is frought with suckage, and even when you try to give it a break, it doesn't reward you.
